An alternative to a nativity was the intention for a local infant school.

Year Twos from College Park Infant school decided to present the Grinch that stole Christmas as this year’s performance.

The Grinch is a children’s story by Dr. Seuss and is written in rhymed verse with illustrations by the author.

It follows the Grinch, a grouchy, solitary creature who attempts to put an end to Christmas by stealing Christmas-themed items from the homes of the nearby town Whoville on Christmas Eve.
.
Taylor   aged 6 3/4  ( I will send this over soon ) who played the Grinch said he was very nervous at first but after doing the performances he said: ‘I enjoyed it very much and I liked being painted with green face paint too.’

During the show, Taylor said the infamous Grinch lines: ‘Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas, perhaps means a little bit more.’

Miss Emma Bannister a year two teacher and the organiser of the show said: ‘We like to further develop the performance skills and singing ability of our children. We have high expectations and as such the children rise to them each year.’

‘We try to give the children a different experience in year two as year R and year one usually do a nativity play and by year two they work hard towards putting on a performance of a higher level.’

The teacher felt Grinch was a great alternative and was so much fun for all the children who took part she said they loved dressing up as the who’s characters and the sleepy who’s too.

Oldest but not always wisest

Hello ,

I know it’s been a while but life has been on official whirlwind mode .

At the end of summer i enquired on a course , a course that i realised i’d shown an interest in for the last two years with news clippings saved in my very large ‘paper stash’  but obviously work commitments and baby rearing took presidence.

The course is a NCTJ in Journalism at a local college , Highbury and in partnership with the local daily paper also , The Portsmouth News.

After a brave email to the tutor i received a phone call from him whilst having a cuppa with a friend ( ladies who do lunch type a thingy !! )

As i’m being all ‘serious and interested’ she was making funny hand gestures and body language which had me starting to giggle so i explained to him that my friend was making me laugh like he knew who my friend was and where i was and what i was doing !!

After gaining composure in the verbal sense i was invited for an interview for the course.

The interview went well and the course sounded really great ; something right up my street and definitely a step in the right direction.

I got an email later that day that i had been offered a place , how exciting a new phase for me , something positive , something to aim towards and thus put me in a better position in the job market and ultimately doing something i WANT to do.

On starting the course there were two older types of students on the course but due to circumstances the other lady left , so it is official i am the oldest on my course.

I am proud of my age and all the experience the years have given me , i am young at heart and love the atmosphere and learning surrounded by the young ones , some the same age as my oldest son. ( or some that act it aka G-E-O-R-G-E !!!)

I buzz to get to college , for a long time i haven’t had this kind of feeling – completely feeling happy and at ease knowing that i have made a RIGHT decision for a change and love love love learning lot’s of new things ( even shorthand Pauline !! ) .

I am also looking forward to what the future holds , i love writing  i always have and seeing it published is quite an exciting thing when just a year ago my future looked so bleak ( or at least the way i viewed it was  )

One thing i’ve always known :’Todays News Is Tomorrows Fish N Chip Paper’

welcome back to ‘me’
